About Us
Our History
Australian Coastal Shipping was established in 2004 through the collaboration of Tom Pinder and David James, who combined their extensive experience and expertise to establish an alternative independent transportation option.
Tom Pinder embarked on a career at sea as a deck apprentice at the age of 16, driven by his desire to explore the world. He spent 11 years honing his skills and gaining valuable experience. Transitioning ashore, Tom assumed the role of a container packing advisor, enabling him to further broaden his knowledge of the global shipping industry. Throughout his career he has held various positions, including managing container terminals in Australia and Southeast Asia, as well as undertaking project management responsibilities for container terminal development worldwide.
David James began his professional journey in a hands-on capacity with one of Australia's prominent manufacturing businesses. Here, he gained invaluable insights into the art of packaging cargo to ensure its safe and efficient movement. This experience sparked his interest in logistics and lead to positions with some of Australia's major transport providers. David's roles primarily revolved around account management and customer service, encompassing rail, road (including full truck load and express freight), and trans-Bass shipping.
Today, Australian Coastal Shipping proudly operates as an independent company, wholly owned and operated in Australia. What initially began as a freight forwarding company has evolved into a comprehensive service provider, offering a diverse range of services and combined modes to meet the containerised freight requirements of businesses across the country.
